Habit 4: Sustain Your Momentum
Last but not least, we're diving into the fourth essential work habit: sustaining your momentum as a way to have continuous growth in your business.
☞ YOUR ACTION:
Reflect on your progress
Adapt to change
Stay connected to your support network
✐ RECOMMENDED TOOL:
My go-to, no-nonsense reflection tool is the “plus/deltas” chart (a simple T-chart with “plusses” on one side and “deltas” on the other, and plenty of room to write underneath. You don't need a special template, you just need a blank piece of paper and a writing utensil. AND, it can be applied to absolutely any scenario.
I've been using this tool for over 15 years and I'm not bored with it yet. It's a quick an easy way to make note for yourself of what's working (plus) and what's not (delta, or triangle). You can then use that information to guide your decision-making and next steps.
✍︎ TAKE IT A STEP FURTHER:
Schedule regular self-performance reviews throughout the year. You can use a simple assessment to look at all areas of your business to better understand what you can shift to be more aligned with where you want to be. Start by rating yourself on a scale of 1-10 (1 = nearly non-existent, 10 = I've totally got this).
Examples of areas to look at include:
Vision
Planning
Making it Happen
Accountability
Right-Fit Team
Financial Organization
Process Organization
Personal Growth
Then, based on your results, consider where you will focus your attention in your immediate next steps based on what you will KEEP, TOSS, or CHANGE.
If you've been taking notes through all four steps and thinking about how these habits impact your business, then I applaud you for spending this time on yourself!
And, I couldn't help myself… I just had to create a bonus step for you that we’ll review next. You're not done with me yet!
P.S. Become a member of the Goal Getters Collab where regular reflection is built into our weekly, monthly, and quarterly planning sessions. The best part is, you also get to hear from other individuals building a business to get inspiration and feel so much less alone in this solo journey.
