Countering the Inherent Urge to Stay Busy

What’s in the name - Savor the Space?

I was talking to my mom on the phone the other day and telling her how I have been so busy with this thing and that… and she started giving me advice about how I should slow down, that I deserve to rest, and yada yada yada.

As she was talking, she verbalized her realization that she also has the same “Levin trait” (my mom's maiden name), which she quickly defined as the inherent urge to stay busy all of the time.

Yep, that's me!

I flippantly thanked her for passing on that trait to me (side note: joking aside, my mom is one of my greatest role models, for many reasons). Yet, internally, this is the urge I feel every day: to do and create.

I am highly aware of my need to stay “busy” AND I also know and have experienced the deep healing and ease of doing nothing and resting and thus have made it my mission to continue incorporating the long and short pauses here and there to reserve my energy for the moments when I am ready to give my all.

What's in a name?

The name Savor the Space is a gentle reminder to me and all of us to take those moments of pause;

to build systems that allow our minds to be put at ease;

to tell ourselves “it's ok, in fact it's necessary, to create space in our lives for ME time”.

When I work with my clients one-on-one or in group settings, my goal is always to hold a calming place for them to find ways of making space. As a former elementary school teacher, I know that teaching a skill to others requires me to re-learn that skill deeply as well. I am in this for all of us to find the space and time we need as individuals to give back to the world in whichever capacity.

I invite you to find a bit of space for yourself today and savor the moments of breath, clarity, and calm.
